The Cement Industry Federation (CIF) is the national body representing the Australian cement industry, comprising the three producers: Adelaide Brighton, Blue Circle Southern Cement and Cement Australia.
Together the three companies account for all of the integrated production of clinker and cement in Australia.
Mission
CIF’s mission is to help promote and sustain a competitive Australian cement industry, which is recognised as responsive to community expectations and needs.
Objectives
The CIF aims to achieve
- A clear understanding by legislators and decision-makers of the essential role of the cement industry in the development and growth of Australia
- Awareness of the cement industry’s commitment to investment in Australia, sustainable employment and the application of best practice in all its activities
- An economic and regulatory environment for the cement industry which encourages and improves industry competitiveness
Key Activities
The CIF works with all levels of government to ensure a sound understanding of the impacts of potential decisions on cement industry competitiveness, and to encourage the adoption of supportive policies and programs. The CIF promotes industry self-regulation through informed and responsive decision-making by Member companies. The CIF seeks to inform the general community about the significance of the cement industry in Australia, and about the activities of the industry. The CIF also liaises with other industry organisations on issues of common interest.
In support of these activities, the CIF
- Collects and disseminates general statistics and technical information about the cement industry in Australia
- Facilitates and coordinates cement industry participation in the Greenhouse Challenge Plus program through the voluntary GEMS scheme
- Coordinates industry submissions on economic, technical and environment issues, and facilitates cement industry participation in existing government programs
